Cherie Long, LCSW
Cherie is from Lancaster, CA, where she was employed by Kaiser Permanente as a Psychiatric Social Worker. She was a team member serving as a psychotherapist to individuals, couples, children and adolescents, families and groups. While there, she created and facilitated the Parenting Group and Child Therapy Orientation Group for parent orientation to psychiatric services for children and adolescents.
She was in private practice for two years providing assessment, diagnosis and psychotherapeutic interventions to individuals, couples, groups and families using primarily a cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused approach. She additionally facilitated support groups for pastors and for Baby Steps, an early intervention program for at-risk infants.
From 1992-94, she was the Social Work Supervisor for the Visiting Nurse Association. She provided clinical supervision and management for 18 Masters level social workers in three offices working in the areas of medical/surgical, hospice, pediatrics and IV care. As part of the management team, she assisted with Utilization Review, OA, Marketing and Community Education.
From 1987-1992 she was a medical-surgical and hospice social worker with VNA and provided interventions as part of a multidisciplinary team to medically and terminally ill patients and their families in their homes. Community education and facilitating medical issues groups and bereavement groups were a significant part of the work. Concurrently she was a Counselor for the Antelope Valley Christian Counseling Center. She also facilitated a support group for survivors of sexual abuse.
From 1986-87, she was a Counselor for Youth and Family Services, Inc. for six rural schools. She authored a weekly newspaper column and monthly letter for parents and co-wrote a proposal for a local alternative education project.
In 1986, she secured a grant creating the position of Community Resources Coordinator for the Washington County Association for Mental Health to assess needs and coordinate community services’ responses to the crises of major layoffs by the primary local employer. Cherie received her B. A. in Psychology from Harding University and a M.S.W. (Master in Social Work) from the University of Oklahoma.
She has been married to Jeff, an engineer, for more than 35 years. They have a 30 year old daughter who was born with spina bifida. Their son, Loren, 34, is a petroleum engineer married to Julie. They have two sons.
